This painting features New Hampshire's state symbol, The Old Man of the Mountain, on a sunny day in summer among some evergreen trees with a little bit of haze in the distance. The trees in reality are smaller and further down, but I felt this would make a more interesting picture.
Although this rock formation fell in 2003, it created a symbol while it stood watch over Franconia Notch that still serves as a reminder of the rugged independence of New Hampshire.
Medium: Acrylic paint on stretched canvas.
Size: 18" x 24"
Date painted: Fall 2007
